It’s the dead of winter here in the northern hemisphere. And apparently January is the most depressing month of the year. Have you heard this? I’ve been hearing it over and over again lately.

Here is the formula used to determine it:

[W+(D-d)]xTQ/MxNA

W is weather, D is debt, d monthly salary, T time since Christmas, Q time since failure of attempt to give something up, M low motivational level and NA the need to take action.

winter blues

WOW. So I thought it would be the perfect time to share a very summery, refreshing beverage to ward off the January blues.

I was really thirsty one morning and I noticed we had a crap-ton of limes left over from a bulk bag we bought. It turned out surprisingly well!

Three simple, natural ingredients:

  • Limes
  • Filtered Water
  • Stevia

In case you don’t know about stevia it is made from a stevia leaf. It’s natural and contains no calories.

Each lime should contain roughly 2 tablespoons of juice. But limes are weird because sometimes they can be extremely dry. Or really tiny. Try to make sure you pick out heavier-feeling limes at the store.

  1. Before squeezing, firmly roll the limes between your palm and the counter to loosen them up. This will make hand-juicing easier.
  2. Halve the limes and then use a citrus squeezer or reamer to extract the juice.IMG_2360
  3. My 10 limes yielded about 1 cup of lime juice. Again, this will vary. But the goal is to get about a cup of lime juice. *Don’t forget to save a thin slice for a pretty garnish 🙂
  4. Add the lime juice to a large pitcher or mason jar.
  5. Add 6-7 cups of filtered water. Stir or shake.
  6. Add stevia to taste. IMG_2364Some people think that stevia can take on a bitter taste if you add too much (Not me). So add a little at a time. I found 2.5 tablespoons to be the perfect amount. I used Stevia In The Raw baker’s bag which is bulked up to be 1:1 with sugar measurements. Beware, stevia packets are much more concentrated. An equal amount would be 3.75 packets. Stir or shake.
  7. Shake with a little ice, pour into a glass and serve!

I’m not a drinker but I bet this would be great with some tequila…

Enjoy 🙂

ROFL!!! That formula is hilarious, all too true for the January blue : (

What’s that old saying? When life gives you limes, make some of Ashley’s limeade? I think so : )

I’ve been squeezing a lemon or lime into water almost daily, but it’s time to step it up with this recipe. So clean looking, so packed with Vitamin C, this is the kind of tonic that cures what ails this time of year. I feel brighter just having read the post, can’t wait to drink it. The mason jars are ready to go, just have to pick up some limes : )

Great tip about picking up heavier limes too, I’ll be using that going forward, testing out a few bags and picking up the heaviest one!

I don’t drink either, well rarely, but tempting to sip a little along with this, just because this would go so good to cut the harshness of liquor.

    1, 7, 7 (easy peasy).

Hahaha. Thank you. I like that phrase! I didn’t even think about the vitamin C but I’m sure that combined with the citrusy smell is what’s so uplifting 🙌 Let me know what you think!

So I tried this recipe yesterday, with 3 huge organic limes squeezed, and I didn’t have any stevia so added 1/2 teaspoon of coconut palm sugar, along with enough water to fill up 3 cups worth in the mason jar..and it is SPECTACULAR!

Been adding a half cup to the “well rested” trader joe tea and drinking it straight right now, so glad you posted this recipe!! I don’t know if I’ll ever stop making it now, (which isn’t a bad thing for these winter months especially; need that vitamin C).

Posted a picture of it on my latest post with a link your site too : )

Wow thank you so much!!! I realized I have to revisit the stevia because I was using baker’s bag of stevia which is 1:1 with sugar. Stevia packets are much sweeter than 1:1! I’ll have to list more options.
I’m glad you used the coconut sugar, sounds amazing!!! I have to check out that TJ tea. Have a great night and thanks again for the feature 🙌

Thanks, you too!! I got that coconut sugar like a year ago from Big Lots, I’ve only used a little bit of it, but just a tiny bit really added a nice dimension to cut down on the lime bitterness (which isn’t that bad at all). Definitely try that Trader Joe “Well Rested Tea,” it’s only $2.29 a package too! Actually sipping it right this moment (along with 1/3 cup of that lime juice, which is now being conserved so I have some left for tomorrow : )

Honestly any grocery store in the sweetener section these days! Near the sugar and artificial sweeteners.
